The government's official Covid-19 verifier app which will help businesses check that customers are vaccinated has been released today.
In a statement this morning, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said the app was now available to download for smartphones.
"For customers entering a business requiring proof of vaccination status, their My Vaccine Pass will be scanned by the verifier app. The verifier will show a green tick recognising the official QR code that is embedded into the customer's pass," he said.
"It will show quickly that the person is fully vaccinated or has the appropriate exemption and can enter their premises. Importantly, the verifier app does not store a person's data or see any information other than a person's name and date of birth."
He said some companies would also integrate the technology into things like ticketing processes.
Essential services like supermarkets, pharmacies and health and disability services cannot use the passes. Large-scale events on the other hand are required to use the pass.
Once the pass has been downloaded, an internet connection is not required to continue to use it. However, it should regularly be connected to the internet to stay up to date on all vaccine passes.
