Ko, 19, fired an opening round 2 over par 74.

Her round included 2 birdies and 4 bogies.

She is tied for 89th, 12 shots from the leader, South Korean Mirim Lee.

"My short game wasn't that great to cover up for the missed shots and when I did hit it close, the putts didn't go in," said Ko.

"When that's the case you're not going to shoot a low score. Hopefully I'll have a low one tomorrow and get back into it."

Lee's 10-under-par 62 equals the lowest ever round in the Women's British Open and she has a three stroke lead.

Ko has had a good run in the three majors so far this year, winning one and finishing second and third in the others.

This is the last tournament before the Rio Olympics.
