Violent clashes have broken out between Indonesian security forces and the West Papua National Liberation Army near a major resource project.
The Grasberg gold and copper mine in Papua province, operated by US company Freeport McMoran, is a major source of revenue for the Indonesian state.
The mine operations, guarded by Indonesian security forces, have been targeted by pro-independence Papuan guerilla fighters in a surge of attacks.
