In Aotearoa, there's a growing debate among Samoan language speakers regarding the use of accent marks.
Historically, Christian missionaries introduced diacritical marks to Samoa in the 19th century.
Language experts like Auckland University's Samoan lecturer, Lemoa Henry Fesuluai says while there have been discussions for a more consistent style in Samoan written text, there are differing views about the use of diacritical marks and glottal stops.
