Mystics upset Swifts in Auckland

13:07 pm on 3 June 2014

The Northern Mystics posted an upset 56-53 over the New South Wales Swifts in Auckland to leave the trans-Tasman netball finals series up in the air.

At least, that is, before the Queensland Firebirds beat the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 59-55 in Hamilton.

That made it six wins on the trot for the Firebirds, who finish second and book a slot in the major semi-final away to the top-qualifying Melbourne Vixens.

The Magic finish the regular season fourth and will face the third-ranked Swifts in Sydney, missing out on the chance of a home playoff.

The Swifts were in the box seat to clinch the minor premiership with a win over the Mystics in Auckland.

But the talent-laden Mystics had different ideas, saving their best until last with a classy outing to deny the visitors.
