Amnesty International has accused Australia of abandoning asylum seekers and refugees on Papua New Guinea's Manus Island and says the government needs to resettle them somewhere else soon.
The organisation released a new report last week saying hundreds of men were moved from a hellish situation to another last Novemeber in an act resembling punishment rather than protection.
The report's author, Kate Schuetze , compiled the work after the men were forcibly removed from their old detention centre to newer, but reportedly unfinished facilities near the island's main town, Lorengau.
Ms Schuetze told Koro Vaka'uta the research was based on interviews with 55 refugees and asylum seekers.
