A King Country baker's gingered peach, pear and Cointreau pie is this year's best pie.
It's the third time in the 16 years of the Bakels competition that a gourmet fruit pie has won the supreme award.
It was made by Shane Kearns of Viands Bakery, of Kihikihi, near Te Awamutu and his wife Kathy, designed the filling with help from a loyal customer.
It's the duo's second consecutive win at the awards.
Their pie beat more than 4500 entries to take the title.
Duncan Loney, one of the judges, says he was blown away by the standard of pies this year and the Kearns' entry was a stand out.
