Wellington's two wins over the defending champions put Canterbury under early pressure as the national Hallyburton Johnstone Shield competition fired up.

Underpinned by skipper Maddy Green's unbeaten 87, Wellington set an imposing target of 267 on Saturday, with Kerr's 5-40 key in dismissing Canterbury for 228 in the 39-run win.

On Sunday, Amy Satterthwaite almost secured victory for Canterbury, featuring with both bat and ball.

She narrowly missed out on her eighth century for Canterbury, dismissed by fellow White Ferns spinner Leigh Kasperek on 96 as the home team were bowled out for 207 in the 44th over.

Kerr picked up 5-36 off her 10 overs, also top-scoring with 41 as Wellington looked on target for a second win at 104-2 after 25 overs.

However Satterthwaite struck three times in the 46th over, and Wellington collapsed from 201-5 to 201-8 before Leigh Kasperek's unbeaten 30 saw them home with six balls to spare.
