Ainsley Thorpe has been forced to withdraw from the woman's triathlon at the Commonwealth Games because she has Covid-19.
She is in Spain with her coach and has mild symptoms.
New Zealand will still be represented in tomorrow night's women's triathlon by Nicole van der Kaay and Andrea Hansen.
Tayler Reid, Dylan McCullough and Hayden Wilde are in the men's race.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee said Thorpe had mild symptoms, and was receiving medical support.
She is in the Spanish city of Girona where her team has been holding a pre-games training camp.
If Thorpe is deemed to be free of Covid-19 later this week, she is still eligible to be considered for the mixed team relay on Sunday night.
NZ men's hockey team also two players down
Two other New Zealand athletes have also had to say an early goodbye to their games hopes, with training injuries forcing changes in the New Zealand men's hockey team.
Jordan Cohen replaces Joe Morrison, who suffered a groin injury, and Brad Read replaces Simon Yorston, who broke his hand.
The men's Black Sticks open their campaign against Scotland on Saturday morning.
