A group in Christchurch plans to replace the rubble of buildings wrecked in September's earthquake with art and native plants.
The 'Greening the Rubble Project' is intended to turn demolished buildings into temporary parks, community gardens and performing spaces.
There's even a plan to turn one section into an artificial beach.
Rhys Taylor, from Living Streets Aotearoa, is one of the organisers. He says the programme will use charity funding and donated or loaned furniture and plants.
He says the project is a good way to lift the spirits of the city.
It will be officially launched in Victoria Street on Sunday.
