Power has now been partially restored to all properties in Northland.

Thousands of people had their power cut on Thursday after a pylon tower fell over on Thursday.

Sixty homes on Kings Road in Paihia's backpackers quarter were the last to come online after Top Energy installed a portable generator on Marsden Road.

The generator turned on just before 9.30am on Friday.

However, Transpower said full power would only be restored over the weekend, after a temporary tower is put in place.

It warned Northlanders to be prepared for the possibility of more outages, particularly if power demand exceeded what was available.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Simeon Brown was currently travelling to Te Tai Tokerau and said getting answers about the outages was a top priority.
