Northland police say they are amazed at some of the speeds they have been clocking drivers at.
An officer caught a man driving 142km/h on State Highway 1 at Oakleigh last week. Another man was driving 129km/h in an 80km/h zone in Whangarei.
The region's road policing manager, Murray Hodson, is amazed at the speeds, saying only a small obstruction on the road can send a car out of control.
Mr Hodson says drivers should remember there is only a 4km/h tolerance until the end of January and motorists should call *555 if they are concerned about other drivers.
