Concerns have been expressed in the Samoa Parliament about American Samoa's attempt to recruit teachers from Samoa.

The education minister, Magele Mauiliu Magele, has told parliament if Samoa had an excess number of teachers, American Samoa would be one market for them.

Talamua online reports that concern was expressed about American Samoa recruiters trying to lure teachers from Samoa with attractive packages when teachers are in short supply in Samoa.

Headed by American Samoa's Director of Education , Vaitinasa Dr Salu Hunkin Finau, the recruitment drive has attracted about 30 local teachers for interviews in Samoa.

They are also targeting teachers who can teach in English and Samoan, given American Samoa's recent shift to use more of the Samoan language in the classrooms.
