Election petition against Samoa minister dropped

One of the four government ministers in Samoa facing bribery and treating allegations following last month's elections has kept his seat and cabinet portfolios after an application has been filed in court for the petition to be withdrawn.

The Minister of Works Transport and Infrastructure, Manu'alesagalala Enokati Posala, was alleged to have given money to several electors of Safata territorial constituency.

But the unsuccessful Tautua Samoa party candidate and petitioner, Saunoamaalii Tiauli Finafinau, has announced through his lawyer that he decided to drop the case because the it has been resolved between the parties.

The court will officially declare the petition withdrawn in a hearing scheduled for May the 16th.

Out of ten petitions filed, three have now been withdrawn.
