The American Samoa government hopes to have the post of territorial auditor filled before the start of fiscal year 2010, which begins on October the 1st.

The position has been vacant since 2005 when then territorial auditor George Webster was fired by the governor with approval of the Fono.

Under local laws the governor hires and fires the territorial auditor but subject to Fono approval.

During a cabinet meeting last week, the governor, Togiola Tulafono, told directors that he intends to get an auditor in part to meet federal requirements for the stimulus economic funding.

An off-island applicant for the job is in Pago Pago and departs today.
