Artemis confirmation for America's Cup

The America's Cup, assured that Artemis Racing will go ahead with its challenge in the wake of crew member Andrew Simpson's death, has unveiled a revised racing schedule.

Artemis Racing chief executive Paul Cayard said last month that the squad would go ahead with its challenge only if team members felt safe in the AC72 catamarans such as the one that capsized in training on San Francisco Bay last month, killing British Olympic gold medallist Simpson.

Cayard says the Swedish syndicate is pushing to be ready for the Louis Vuitton Cup, in which the three challengers which also includes Team New Zealand and Italy's Luna Rossa will battle for the right to take on America's Cup defenders Oracle of the United States for the trophy in September.

The first race day of the Louis Vuitton Cup remains July 7th in San Francisco.

If Artemis isn't ready to race in the opening round-robin portion of the challenger series, the team will forfeit the opportunity to gain points.

The top team from the round-robin will go into the challenger final, while the remaining two teams will duel in a semi-final series, so Artemis would still have a shot.
