Samoa MP calls for new flag to mark 50 years of independence

A prominent opposition member of the Samoan Parliament has called for a new national flag to be presented as part of next year's 50th anniversary of independence.

Motuopua'a Dr Aisoli Uifagasa Va'ai made the suggestion in parliament, along with arguing in favour of relocating the airport in tandem with a proposed casino.

He has told the Samoa Observer that the current flag bears the remnants of colonialism and says the main colour of the flag should be blue.

Earlier this month, Motuopua'a called for a common currency to be adopted for the Pacific.
