China's top ranked woman here

China's highest ranking woman politician is on an official visit to New Zealand.

Liu Yandong is a member of the Politburo and also minister for education, science, screen, television and culture. She is in New Zealand from Sunday until Tuesday.

Her visit will include the signing of an agreement between China and this country on science and technology.

There will also be an agreement signed which is intended to increase educational links between the two countries.

China is the largest source of international students to New Zealand. It is also this country's second largest trading partner after Australia.

During her visit, Liu Yandong will meet Prime Minister John Key, other government ministers, Auckland Mayor Len Brown and Auckland University chancellor Stuart McCutcheon.
