The head of Niue broadcasting says it's unfair to blame its station for problems with its signal and its programming.
The Broadcasting Corporation of Niue, along with Telecom Niue, are to face an unprecedented parliamentary select committee.
One MP, Terry Coe, said there were concerns that Telecom Niue had yet to connect to the undersea cable, Manatua, while there had been unexplained spending within the government agency.
As for BCN, he said there have been problems of no signal in some areas for the past six months, while the programming was poor.
Coe said there was very little variety in shows with lots of repeats.
In reply, BCN chief executive, Trevor Tiakia, said the signal had been down for the past two months in some areas because parts being shipped from China were delayed.
He said last year's fire at BCN destroyed a lot of equipment and had also delayed a promised move to multiple TV channels.
Tiakia said what they do run, apart from the news programmes, was mostly determined by the New Zealand government-funded Pasifika TV.
So far it has not been possible to reach Brett Collier, the chief executive at Niue Telecom.
