Papua New Guinea has confirmed its first case of swine flu but the identity of the individual has not been made public.

Last week, 16 PNG residents were tested for influenza H1N1 and last night, a Melbourne testing laboratory confirmed one positive sample.

PNG's health secretary, Clement Malau, says the person living in the capital Port Moresby has been ordered to stay indoors.

It is believed the person most likely visited Australia recently where more than 2,000 people have contracted swine flu.
