Sam's Take - This week, Sam dives into Nicolas Cage's latest character study on ... himself with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Directed by Tom Gormican, Nicolas Cage plays a fictional version of himself who begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of billionaire super fan Javi (Pedro Pascal).
When things take a wild turn, Nic must work with the CIA to uncover a kidnapping and sabotaging of an election, all the while fostering his relationship with Javi who just wants to make a movie. "
It's as ridiculous as you think it is. But it knows what it is. It's Nicholas Cage just doing Nicholas Cage things. Literally, but not in the somewhat intolerable way from the mid 2000's. Again, he knows what he's doing.
The film even pokes fun at the absurd public image of Cage and all of his meme glory.
Though Cage himself has said the characterised version of himself in the film is nothing like his real life personality.
