New Zealand Food Safety is advising people who bought Hororata Foods Limited Prime Smoke Smoked Salmon Shavings sold at New World and Pak'n Save should return their food.

Listeria can lead to life-threatening illness, especially among vulnerable groups like babies and pregnant women.

Food Safety said just one batch of the salmon was affected and the batch number could be found on the Ministry of Primary Industries' recall page.

There have been no reports of illness so far but anyone feeling unwell should go to their doctor.
