Mediaworks tightens up

05:53 am on 13 March 2009

Employees at Mediaworks - a commercial radio and television company - are being told they should take annual leave, work fewer hours and not expect a pay rise because of the economic downturn.

Commercial broadcasters are grappling with a slump in advertising revenue.

Mediaworks, which owns TV3 and C4, and operates stations including RadioLive, The Rock and More FM, employs more than 1000 people.

Chief executive Brent Impey says the company is doing all it can to retain staff.

He has emailed employees telling them leave entitlements will be cut to 20 days per year and outstanding leave must be taken by set deadlines.
