A Tauranga house had to be stablisied before firefighters could get to a ute that had crashed into it early this morning, killing the driver.
The car with two people inside crashed into the house on Otumoetai Rd about 1am, a Fire Service spokesperson said.
Both people were trapped in the car and had to be cut out.
The driver died at the scene and the passenger suffered moderate injuries.
The owners of the home were not injured.
The Fire Service said equipment was used to ensure the house would not collapse once the vehicle was removed.
Spokesperson Colin Underdown said they were then able to safely extract the people from the ute.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
