Rugby supporters finish charity cycle tour

15:07 pm on 3 October 2011

A group of Irish rugby supporters has finished a 14-day cycle tour of the South Island in support of disabled players.

Thirty supporters started the 1100km trip, but only three-quarters of them managed to continue beyond the first day.

Organiser Andy Hunt of Christchurch says they ran into hail and snow en route from Christchurch to the Southern Alps.

Despite the setback, he says the rest of the group hung on to finish and raised thousands of dollars.
