Police are to lay a more serious charge against a hunter who shot and killed a woman while hunting with a spotlight on Department of Conservation land at Labour Weekend.
Andrew Mears was charged with careless use of a firearm causing death, but will face a charge of manslaughter when he appears in Taupo District Court on Thursday.
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge on 3 November
Rosemary Ives, 25, died while brushing her teeth at a department campsite near Turangi.
At the time of the first court appearance, police indicated a more serious charge was possible.
