The leader of Fiji's National Federation Party says the chair of the public accounts committee should focus on doing his job and not on criticising media for doing their job.

Last month, an auditor general's report identified areas of misspending, unaccounted funds and a lack of transparency in the government.

The Fiji Times published the findings but committee chair Ashneel Sudhakar hit out at the reporting, suggesting it undermined his work.

The NFP's Biman Prasad said the report is of public interest and Mr Sudhakar is wrong.

"The attack on the Fiji Times for publishing directly from the Auditor-General's report is unjustified, unwarranted and in fact is quite mischievous for the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee to gag the media on reporting what now is a public document," said Biman Prasad.
