Tokelau gifts old ferry to Samoa

06:21 am on 28 January 2013

The government of Tokelau says its strong relationship with the Samoa government was the reason it gifted it the MV Tokelau ferry.

The general manager of the Tokelau Office in Apia, Joe Suveinakama, says Samoa has over the years supported Tokelau in shipping matters.

After ten years of service, the ship is no longer seen fit to carry passengers.

But Mr Suveinakama says it may still be of use for Samoa.

"We hope the government of Samoa will use the vessel. It provides an opportunity for the government to improve its services."
