Police have been responding after a person discovered a small homemade explosive device in a reserve near their Auckland home.
Defence Force staff were called to Seabrook Ave, New Lynn, to safely dispose of the device at about 2pm.
It was taken to Lawson Park, deemed a safe place to undertake a controlled detonation.
Residents near the park, on the corner of Seabrook Ave and Willerton Ave, could expect to hear a loud bang as the device was detonated and should not be alarmed.
Police said there was no risk to public safety.
