Police Assn says front line shortages should not be ignored

The Police Association says a survey showing the police are concerned about front line staff shortages should not be ignored.

Some 4000 officers were asked about the impact of budget cuts. The survey found the most critical area needing additional resources is the frontline and that cuts are becoming a major threat to law and order.

Police Association president Greg O'Connor said that despite falling crime rates, politicians should not be complacent about police concerns.

He said most officers surveyed don't believe that cost cutting has improved services to the public.
