A search is underway for a missing Danish man who went hunting for tahr by himself in Westland last week.
The 21-year-old went into the Cassel Flat area in the Karangarua Valley on Monday and was seen in the Cassel Flat hut by other hunters last Thursday.
He was reported overdue yesterday and West Coast Search and Rescue and Land Search and Rescue have begun searching.
The police say the area is hazardous and recent weather has been cold and wet, with a heavy rain warning in force for today.
The man is believed to be carrying a personal locator beacon but has not activated it.
His family in Denmark have been contacted.
