After 17 years of top flight netball Bianca Chatfield has called time on her career.

The 33 year old Melbourne Vixens captain and Commonwealth Games gold medallist will retire at the end of the trans-Tasman championship season.

The 59 test Chatfield ended her international career after helping Australian Diamonds win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow.

She first made the national team as an 18-year-old and went on to claim a Commonwealth Games silver medal in 2006 and a world netball championship title in 2007.

She has been part of the Vixens for all eight seasons playing more than 100 games and captaining the side to premierships in 2009 and 2014.

Chatfield said she'd made Vixens coach Simone McKinnis aware of her intentions at the start of the year.
