Detained MP adamant over CHOGM boycott

07:58 am on 11 November 2013

A Green MP who was detained in Sri Lanka, says her experience strengthens the call for New Zealand to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting starting in Colombo on Friday.

Jan Logie was there to talk to people pushing for an investigation into accusations that government forces committed war crimes in 2009.

She and a Greens Senator from Australian were detained at a hotel for three hours, then ordered to leave the country. Ms Logie says this highlights the criticisms of Sri Lanka.

The Government has said it's more constructive to engage, and directly express New Zealand's concerns about issues such as human rights.
