Police are disappointed at what they say is the high number of drivers found over the drink-drive limit in small, rural communities.
Eight drivers produced positive breath-blood alcohol readings in three North Island rural towns on Saturday evening,
Senior Sergeant Nick Dobson of the Central District Traffic Support Unit says it's disappointing that so many people in such a short space of time have put their lives and the lives of others at risk.
He says drivers should not be under any illusion that they can get away with drink-driving just because they live in more rural locations.
Senior Sergeant Dobson says on Saturday night, police processed six drivers in Dannevirke with a positive breath-blood alcohol reading, a seventh in Pahiatua and an eighth in Eketahuna.
In February, the New Zealand Transport Agency launched new television advertising that focuses on young drunk drivers in rural areas, after a number of fatal crashes.
