The Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says they are always ready for an election or a by-election.
Mr Chaudhry was commenting on the possibility that by-elections would have to be held if members of his party who have challenged his leadership are expelled.
Under Fiji's constitution those expelled from a party automatically lose their parliamentary seats and by-elections have to be held.
Those who could face expulsion are cabinet ministers Poseci Bune and Krishna Datt and MPs Felix Anthony and Agni Deo Singh who have criticized Mr Chaudhry's leadership style and called for more democracy in party decision making.
Mr Chaudhry says they are always ready for an election because one never knows when the House is dissolved or a seat become vacant.
