The Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Dame Meg Taylor has welcomed the Fiji prime minister's official visit to Australia and New Zealand this week.
She said she hoped the Fiji Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama would again attend the Forum summits which he had shunned in recent years.
He last attended the Forum summit in Tonga in 2007 when he promised to return Fiji to democracy.
However, he reneged on the promise and in 2009 Fiji's membership was suspended for five years.
Mr Bainimarama has said he would not participate in any Forum leaders' meeting until Australia and New Zealand are removed as full members.
Since being re-admitted, Fiji has been represented at the Forum by its Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
However, last month Mr Bainimarama removed Ratu Inoke from the portfolio just hours before the annual Forum summit was about to start.
Mr Bainimarama is now the foreign minister.
