Violent brawls which broke out on Auckland's K Road and surrounding streets have been caught on video, with police wanting help to identify the culprits.
The chaos unfolded on Karangahape Road in the early hours of Sunday morning, with the fights disrupting traffic - one of which took place on the bonnet of a car that was stopped at a traffic light.
Police said one man had to be hospitalised and 14 arrests were made, largely for disorderly behaviour.
Two men were due to appear in court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault with intent to injure.
Inspector Mark Benefield said it was extremely frightening and law-abiding people should not have to deal with it.
"It's hugely frustrating and disappointing to see violence like this in our city at night. This was violence fuelled by alcohol and people who can't handle their drink," Mr Benefield said.
"It only takes one punch and someone falls, knocks their head and dies."
He said police would continue to patrol the city's party hot spots.
Mr Benefield said further charges weren't being ruled out.
