New Zealand race walker Quentin Rew produced the best performance of his career as he finished 17th in the 50 kilometre race at the Moscow world championships.
But despite cutting five minutes off his personal best, Rew was disappointed with his placing and time of three hours 50 minutes and 27 seconds - more than 12 minutes behind the winner, Irishman Robert Heffernan.
Heffernan's victory spoiled the Russian party one day after Yelena Isinbayeva's wildly-celebrated pole vault triumph at the Luzhniki stadium, which was again largely empty on day six, in contrast to the previous evening when the stands rocked with appreciation after the Isinbayeva show.
With no evening session on Wednesday as the nine-day championships take a breather, the walk and a handful of qualifying represented thin fare.
