Nicole van der Kaay, McCullough, Ainsley Thorpe and Morgan were in the lead group throughout and it came down to New Zealand, the USA and Italy over the final three legs, with the USA pulling ahead over the last lap of the run.

Wilde finished sixth in the men's race yesterday, while van der Kaay was ninth.

The next round is in Edmonton next weekend.

Roach scored 30 and Seales two in an unbeaten 17-run partnership as the home side reached their target of 168 for the loss of nine wickets after the West Indies had bowled Pakistan out for 203 in their second innings, with Seales taking 5-55.

Fortunes ebbed and flowed dramatically throughout the fourth day with 14 wickets falling before Roach stroked the winning runs through the covers.

The West Indies looked to have little chance when they lost their last recognised batsman Joshua da Silva with 26 runs still required and two wickets left, but Roach took up the challenge with a confident batting display.

Earlier, the 19-year-old Seales became the youngest West Indian to get a test match five-wicket haul, beating Alf Valentine's 71-year-old record, as he rolled over Pakistan's lower order after they resumed at 160-5.

The second and final test is also behind closed doors at Sabina Park, Kingston starting this weekend.

Ko, who made a slow start to the tournament, improved over the four days, and finished three shots behind the winner Ryann O'Toole of the United States.

O'Toole, who had never been the leader or co-leader after 54 holes before today, is now the sixth first-time winner on Tour this season. It was her 228th start on the LPGA Tour since turning pro in 2009.

Ko had one of the best rounds on the final day with a nine under par 63 that included an eagle.

It is Ko's eighth top ten finish in 15 events this season.

The women's last major of the year, the British Open is this week at Carnoustie.

Frenchman Norman Nato won for Venturi, his first victory in the all-electric series.

The series' seventh season is the first given full world championship status by the governing International Automobile Federation (FIA).

Belgian wins stage 2 of Vuelta

Belgian Jasper Philipsen won stage two of the Vuelta a Espana by edging the bunch sprint at the end of the flat 166km stage from Caleruega to Burgos as Primoz Roglic maintained his overall lead.

The Alpecin-Fenix rider timed his surge to the finish line perfectly to pass UAE Emirates rider Juan Sebastian Molano, who went too early and was easily caught before finishing fourth.

Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen came second while Australian Michael Matthews was third, all crossing the line in three hours 58 minutes 57 seconds.

Philipsen's victory completed a hat-trick of opening sprint wins in all three grand tours this season for Alpecin-Fenix while the Belgian collected his second Vuelta stage win after taking his first last year.

Reigning champion Roglic finished 33rd but lost no time and kept the leaders' red jersey after winning yesterday's individual time trial.

The race enters the mountains for the first time today.

Mueller dies

Former West Germany striker Gerd Mueller, one of the game's greatest goalscorers who was nicknamed "Bomber der Nation", has died at the age of 75.

Mueller netted 68 goals in 62 internationals, including the winner in the 1974 World Cup final, and is third in the all-time list of most goals in the global showpiece tournament with 14, behind Brazilian Ronaldo (15) and German Miroslav Klose (16).

"He was the "Bomber der Nation", Germany's biggest goal scorer ever," the German FA said.

Having joined Bayern Munich in 1964, Mueller - an instinctive striker who was good in the air and quick on his feet - scored 566 goals in 607 matches spread over 15 years with the club.

Mueller netted a record 365 goals in the Bundesliga in a trophy-laden career that included four league titles, four German Cups and three European Cups with Bayern.

He won the Golden Boot after scoring 10 goals at the 1970 World Cup before collecting the Ballon d'Or that year and an uncanny ability to turn and score from seemingly impossible angles became Mueller's trademark.

He also helped West Germany win the 1972 European Championship.

Australia may allow more foreign based players back into Wallabies

Rugby Australia will look into its "Giteau Law" criteria to expand its eligibility laws and broaden its pool of players for Wallabies selection, chief executive Andy Marinos said.

Photo: PHOTOSPORT

The Giteau Law allows players not attached to Australian Super Rugby teams to be eligible for Wallabies selection if they have played in more than 60 tests and spent seven seasons in Australia. The rule was implemented in 2015.

Australia places limits on the eligibility of overseas-based players to represent the country to encourage more to stay home and support domestic rugby.

"We do need to look into eligibility," Marinos told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I'm not saying it's going to be alpha and omega. But it will certainly bring a lot more experience and a lot more depth across the board.

"When you look at the pool of talent from which we are selecting in comparison to our biggest rivals; be it New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, England - they have access and the ability to choose their very best players no matter where they're playing."

Pundits have urged Rugby Australia to do away with the curbs, saying they have done little to prevent a player drain to more lucrative overseas markets while weakening the Wallabies' playing stocks.

Australia lost the Bledisloe Cup for the 19th straight year after they were beaten 57-22 by New Zealand on Saturday.
