A person has died after a car left a highway and plunged into Lake Rotomā in the Rotorua district.
Police said they responded to a report of the crash near the intersection of State Highway 30 and Matahi Road about 3.10pm.
The person in the car was brought out but resuscitation attempts failed and they died at the scene.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
