The Hutt City Council has decided not to go ahead with building a stadium for the Wellington Phoenix football team in Petone.
The council voted against the idea at a budget meeting on Wednesday.
Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace said most residents expressing a view on the proposal had been against it, and the council was listening to the people.
