Jailed osteopath further censured

An osteopath jailed for indecent assault and unlawful sexual connection with his patients has been further censured, this time by his peers.

Richard James Davis was convicted in the High Court in Wellington in September last year on eight counts of sexual violation and seven counts of indecent assault. He is serving an eight-year jail term.

A charge was then brought before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal that Davis had been convicted of offences that reflected adversely on his fitness to practise.

The tribunal has upheld the charge, cancelled Davis's registration, censured him and ordered him to pay costs of $10,535.

If he ever seeks re-registration, and is granted it, he would only be able to practise under supervision.
