Police are hunting for a man with a gang tattoo covering most of his face after a person was shot in the leg in Wellington last week.
The victim remains in a serious but stable condition after Friday's incident, which took place on Owhiti St in Titahi Bay.
Sam Murray, 36, is wanted in relation to what police called a "violent incident".
A number of search warrants had been carried out, Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Middlemiss said on Monday, but Murray had not been found - nor the weapon.
"While he is not believed to be a direct threat to the public, he is possibly armed and should not be approached," Middlemiss said.
A photo of Murray provided by police showed he had a tattoo on his face reading 'Mongrel Mob Porirua', and more designs on his neck.
Middlemiss said Murray had ties to Hawke's Bay, and may have travelled there to avoid police. Anyone who sees him or has information should call 111 immediately, he said.
