A man charged in relation to a confrontation where a gun was fired outside Wellington hospital earlier this month will appear in court next month.

The incident saw armed police descend on Wellington Hospital on 1 May.

It began when police say a person brandished a knife at another man at a motel over the road from the hospital with the situation escalating to a gun being fired at a person in a vehicle outside the emergency department entrance.

A warrant was issued for a 21-year-old man's arrest after he failed to appear in Wellington District Court on Monday.

Police said today the warrant has now been withdrawn and he was scheduled to appear in Wellington District Court next month.

He is charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

Two other men have also been arrested over the incident.
