Ponting fighting hard to be fit for Boxing Day test against Pakistan

The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting says he's confident of recovering from an elbow injury to play in the first test against Pakistan on Boxing Day, despite admitting he won't touch a bat until Christmas day.

He was struck on the elbow by a Kemar Roach bouncer during the third test against the West Indies in Perth and has been using an oxygen chamber to try and speed up his recovery.

Australia have called opener Phil Hughes into the squad as cover for Ponting but the captain says he'll do everything he can to prove his fitness.
