Comvita has succeeded in an appeal against an earlier judgement by courts in Britain to rule one of its patents invalid.
A British court last year revoked Comvita's patent for the wound care treatment, and ordered it to pay 835-thousand dollars to Brightwake Limited for patent infringement.
The medical honey products maker appealed the decision and the court has ruled in its favour and reinstated the patent.
Chief executive Brett Hewlett says the medical grade manuka honey patent has now survived comprehensive scrutiny by the UK legal system, which acts as a deterrent to further legal action.
Cerebos of Singapore launched a $71 million takeover offer for Comvita last year, but the deal lapsed, after shareholders rejected it as too low.
Shares in Comvita were rose 5 cents at $2.50 on Tuesday.
