Dr Ekeroma is taking over from vice-chancellor, Fui Lau Asofou So'o, who resigned three months ago after an inquiry into internal differences involving two deputy vice-chancellors over administration matters.

The new vice-chancellor has a PhD from Auckland University and an MBA from the University of Keele in the United Kingdom.

In recent years, he has worked for the Otago Medical School in Wellington

In a statement, the cabinet said Dr Ekeroma would lead the university and ensure it achieved its expected outcomes.

He is also responsible to the National University Council for the effective leadership, management and development of the academic and administrative affairs of the NUS.
