A man accused of kidnapping two children in Havelock North and threatening to harm or kill one of them is being held in custody.
Police said the children were walking together on Thursday evening last week, when the man approached and threatened them, forcing them to stay with him.
The children fled to a nearby house, and the homeowner called police.
The 38-year-old, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Hastings District Court today, but did not enter a plea.
Judge Gordon Matenga declined the man's bail application, remanding him in custody until his next hearing on 31 October.
