National music venue advocacy organisation Save Our Venues has added its voice to those worried about the future of Dunedin music venue The Crown Hotel.
The historic venue's ability to host live music hangs in the balance after a recent decision by Dunedin City Council to grant resource consent to a residential apartment development on a neighbouring property.
A community protest organised by Save Dunedin Live Music will take place today at 12pm in the Octagon in Dunedin.
Organiser David Bennett said the group formed around a year ago, in response to noise complaints plaguing another local venue, Bark.
"Over the last ten years there's been an erosion basically of our music venues in town and it's getting quite dire at this point," he said.
"The Crown is one of our remaining bastions and one of the best grassroots music venues in the country in my opinion, so we're doing our best to save it."
