Waikato man's death unexplained

The death of a man whose body was found in the Waikato River is being treated as suspicious.

Tama Retimana's body was found by a kayaker in the Hamilton area on Tuesday.

Police said they were continuing to search the river banks as they pieced together what happened before Mr Retimana died.

The search was focused on a campsite where Mr Retimana was living with his partner, and the police said they wanted to identify the other people who were living there.

The police were also checking CCTV footage from the Hamilton CBD area and speaking to members of the homeless community.
